But before you do, it’s important that I convey why this home owners roof was completely destroyed within the same day she had her roof re-done. The reason is quite simple actually; the roofers (who aren’t wildlife removal specialists) decided to fix the roof and in the process lock the mother raccoon out without any access to her babies. Later that night when the coast was clear, the mother raccoon came back again as usual to feed and tend to her kits. When she wasn’t able to, and as is always the case, she made every effort and attempt to get back in. You can see by the picture to the right that she was successful. But in the process her action incurred thousands of dollars of damage, and the roof repairs have to be paid for twice.
It’s natural in the animal kingdom to care and protect their young and to stop at no ends to ensure their safely. This case was no different. If a professional pest control company was called out to assess the problem before the roof job was done, the outcome would have been 100% better. A few days ago, I posted information about our raccoon removal process and it’s a great read on exactly how we deal with raccoons. If you want to see how it’s done, simply follow this link: (source).
The take home is simple: don’t lock a mother raccoon or the mother of any animal out from her babies. If you do, there’s a high chance you’ll have a bigger problem to deal with. Call the professionals and get the job done right!
