Even though 2015 has just started, our team is experiencing a spike in calls for raccoon control and removal jobs from customers. Many of our customers are telling us of their experiences with hearing loud thumping and noises from their attics of which seem to them to be the sounds of raccoons or squirrels fighting.

What’s actually more likely is that they’re hearing the sounds of the raccoons and squirrels mating of which will produce babies we’ll see being born in the early spring.

What usually happens is that home owners who live in areas more prone to wildlife intrusions, see a lot of raccoon activity around their home in January to due to it being their mating season. Throughout the year raccoons create den sites all around the neighbourhood and they roam from den to den; a place that’s warm and dry, usually a home owners attic. Raccoons are vary vocal during the night time, and even more so when they’re mating.

These mating sounds tip-off home owners to their presence and that’s generally why we get so many calls for raccoon removal during the early winter season.

Once a mother raccoons gives birth, that will be the main den site until the babies are able to be mobile on their own. This could take up to 3 months and if you’re home is the target, you’ve got a racoon problem to control of.

Have a look at some of the baby-coons we quarantined for their mother last Spring:
