We were quite surprised yesterday to get a rare call to a business property for a mink removal job. In the wildlife and pest removal business, it’s not every day that a customer comes across a mink, let alone a mink that becomes a pest to the property.

The most common forms of wildlife we encounter are squirrels, mice/rats, raccoons and bats. Since it’s not often we get called out for mink control, we’ve decided to share this experience with you and to let you know that yes, we do provide mink removal in most situations. (call us to discuss your issue)

Capturing the mink

The 2 technicians arrived to find a mink in the back storage room of a building complex. They had to make sure they were very cautious not to get bit or scratched as minks have very sharp teeth and claws. They evaluated the situation and decided on the best way to capture the animal with the least amount of stress to it. They strategically corralled the mink into a humane trap and brought it outside to the back of the properly and released it back into it’s home environment.

Minks in Ontario

Minks (a.k.a. Mustela vison) are generally hardly found living where humans live. Their habitats are usually found in deeper wooded areas and along lakes and river streams. If a home or property owner actually encounters a mink, chances are it got there by mistake, and it wasn’t intending on building a nest to live there permanently. This is especially true because minks require a more diverse diet than the simple nuts and scraps wildlife like raccoons and squirrels can live off of. They’re diet is rich in fish and other forms of water animal species.

If you do find a mink trapped somewhere in your living quarters it’s only hope is that he’s unharmed and brought back to the wild.

If you read our removal process, you’ll understand how we handle all wildlife we get called out to deal with, and you’ll be able to rest assured knowing that every one of them like this mink are handled humanely and safely. Feel free to leave your comments below.
