We’ve come across a lot of raccoon damage during our travels as a wildlife removal company, but not as bad as what I found on this Brantford house today! To make a long story short, a home owner had holes and damage done to her roof – by the elements and because of wildlife entries – and she believed that hiring a roofing company would solve her problems. This is a very natural assumption, and a lot of people make it, but in the end, what happened to this home owners roof is better explained by watching the video. You have to watch the video below.
But before you do, it’s important that I convey why this home owners roof was completely destroyed within the same day she had her roof re-done. The reason is quite simple actually; the roofers (who aren’t wildlife removal specialists) decided to fix the roof and in the process lock the mother raccoon out without any access to her babies. Later that night when the coast was clear, the mother raccoon came back again as usual to feed and tend to her kits. When she wasn’t able to, and as is always the case, she made every effort and attempt to get back in. You can see by the picture to the right that she was successful. But in the process her action incurred thousands of dollars of damage, and the roof repairs have to be paid for twice.
Do we blame the mother raccoon?
It’s natural in the animal kingdom to care and protect their young and to stop at no ends to ensure their safely. This case was no different. If a professional pest control company was called out to assess the problem before the roof job was done, the outcome would have been 100% better. The take home is simple: don’t lock a mother raccoon or the mother of any animal out from her babies. If you do, there’s a high chance you’ll have a bigger problem to deal with. Call the professionals and get the job done right!
