Snake Removal Because of Potential Mice and Rat problemsDo you have a snake problem and need to get one out of your house? If so don’t be dismayed because our removal services can get rid of them. Although snake entries into homes are not that common, they sometimes do make their way into one.

When this happens, depending on the snake this could pose a safety hazard, but for the most part it’s just a nuisance that the home owner has to deal with.

In Ontario there is only one venomous snake called the Massasauga Rattle Snake. This snake is generally found in the more western rural parts of the province and is rarely found in Southern Ontario except for a few remnants found near Windsor and Port Colbourne.

They’re also actually on the endangered species list, so if you do find one, we advise that you give us or the SPCA a call so it can be handled properly and according to wildlife preservation laws.

With that said, the remaining type of snakes that could enter your home are non-venomous and therefore don’t pose a huge threat to the safely of your family but when it comes to snake problems, they could be a sign of another problem – rats and mice.

Rats and mice are big on a snake’s diet, and if you’ve found a snake in your home it could very well mean you have a mice problem, and that is were the snake is getting a ration of it’s food from. Take note though that a snakes diet doesn’t only consist of rats or mice; they also like to eat frogs, worms, salamanders, and other insects.

Entry points

Snake holes and entry points are also usually the same points that mice get into from, although smaller snakes can get into a home from sometimes much smaller holes as well and in places a home owner wouldn’t generally expect.

This is why a professional wildlife management company should be called because you want to rest assured that your home is safe from future intrusions and that the animals are handled humanely and according to the law.

Where do snakes hide?

Snakes of all kinds prefer to hide in areas where they can’t be seen while they’re waiting for their prey. On the outside of your home, they can be found hiding near rubbish and other outdoor debris, in piles of wood, around large and overgrown vegetation and find their way into a home through gaps and openings in any outdoor sealing.

When a snake is in your home, it’s generally stuck there. They don’t prefer hiding in homes and if they can’t get out, they may need some extra help.

As mentioned above, they spend their time finding prey and if they’ve happened into the inside of your home it’s because they believe food is in there but once they’ve eaten, they’re desire is to get out. So where can you find them in a home? Almost anywhere. They won’t nest in your home or attic, but if they can’t find their way out of your home, they may find a place to rest that’s warm, dry and quiet. This resting place will most likely be in your basement, behind your walls or behind appliances.

Finding a snake in or around your toilet is actually quite common too. So as you can see, if you’ve got a snake living in your home, it could show up virtually anywhere and for some people, this is absolutely not acceptable.

Snakes, rats and mice

This is what we call the dynamic-trio of pest control. Preventing mice ensures snakes can’t get in and preventing snakes does the same for mice – it stops them both dead in their tracks.
